In 2018 designers in Zurich made a robotic-driven tabletop which tracks people’s faces and moves as though it has a life of its own.
The artwork uses ferro-fluids a type of liquid that becomes strongly magnetized in the presence of a magnetic field. The robot is fitted with a custom-designed magnetic end effector. Using a camera with face detection, the fluid is programmed to follow people around when they look at the artwork.
